The New York Times bestselling debut book of poetry from Lana Del Rey, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.
Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many. Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem. They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason I'm proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic. --Lana Del Rey Lana's breathtaking first book solidifies her further as the essential writer of her times (The Atlantic). The collection features more than thirty poems, many exclusive to the book: Never to Heaven, The Land of 1,000 Fires, Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving, LA Who Am I to Love You?, Tessa DiPietro, Happy, Paradise Is Very Fragile, Bare Feet on Linoleum, and many more. This beautiful hardcover edition showcases Lana's typewritten manuscript pages alongside her original photography. The result is an extraordinary poetic landscape that reflects the unguarded spirit of its creator. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is also brought to life in an unprecedented spoken word audiobook which features Lana Del Rey reading fourteen select poems from the book accompanied by music from Grammy Award-winning musician Jack Antonoff. It takes about 4 Hours and 24 minutes on average for a reader to read Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass. This is based on the average reading speed of 250 Words per minute.
Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass is 112 pages long.
Lana I’ll prefer you bending backwards in song, not poetry
Derived From Web , Nov 25, 2020
The book is beautiful and personal to Lana, but I didn't connect with it. This isn't a book I'm excited to read with my friends. She decided to include the pencil marks and corrections. I don't know what the reason is for this. If you don't like it, you can finish it in an hour. The photography is beautiful, but I feel like it is a spacefiller. You might connect better with her story telling and poetry if you' re from LA. I like her better as a singer.

Genuinely Lovely
Derived From Web , Oct 9, 2020
I enjoy a lot of Del Rey's work, so I hoped this book wouldn't be like a celebrity scent. I'm happy to say that it wasn't. When I read Fragments, a collection of original poems and sketches by Marilyn Monroe, I was able to see the child inside the woman who was generous, vulnerable, creative, tender, insightful. A typed page is more personal than a printed one. I liked the hand- scrabbled notes. A great treat. Looking forward to the next event.

I’m not sure what to think...
Derived From Web , Oct 1, 2020
I was expecting this book to be as beautiful as the picture Lana paints with her music, but I don't know what to say. Lana has touched on a lot of the topics in the poems. I felt like I was reading the same sentence over and over again. If I were honest, this book was pretentious and mediocre. Lana glamorizes sadness, depression, heartbreak and longing and I am bored of it. There were a few good poems, but I don't think this book was a real poetry book, it was more of random thoughts scrubbed on scrap paper.

Do not dismiss Lana Del Rey.
Derived From Web , Oct 1, 2020
Sometimes Lana Del Rey oversimplifies things. There is a recurring theme of California and modern living, but it is written well. It is even more clever. Lana and her music are great, but I don't think it's clever. You know, it is sort of a mood. This is a completely thought out concept. The book is easy to understand and relate to. I loved reading this and I was impressed.
