African American Tom Sawyers !! - Great Story Based on True Events
I never knew that there were so many African American pioneers! What an eye opener!! I would like to publicly thank the author for the due diligence in researching and writing this story. This should be a movie! African American Tom Sawyers! What a story! Buy this book and read it to your children.

One of my favorite children's books of all time
I love this book so much. I bought it when my children were small, and I still buy it as a gift or in bulk for book drives. It is a fascinating story of an African American pioneer family and her love for themselves, their fortitude and their beautiful bravery. It is powerful and heart wrenching. My children are grown up now and in college, and I still cry every single time I read it.

This book is beautiful. It tells the story of a father with ...
It tells the story of a father with his three boys who begin a new life after the civil war. It is an easy read. I used it with my second graders. I also used it with fifth graders at risk. I would recommend this book to teachers and parents and children. It is a young book to read with perfect people.

   Wonderful Western Adventure
I bought half a dozen of these to donate to a local school in honor of my late wife. It was one of my sons'favorite places to hang out, from 6 to 10 years old. A serious book about survival and adventure. Then there is no scary. It is looking for you boys or girls for it.

   Gave my child serious anxiety
Gave my almost eight-year-old anxiety. Mother died, and father abandoned the children and left just to look for another town. On their own, little children had to survive. Months later, father sends him a letter saying that I found a better place to find him. Here is a map of the province of Laos. Kids walk almost a month for a month! I really don 't believe that this book provides much value, certainly not good parenting, historical truthfulness is doubtful, and the word Indians is used to name Native Americans. Maybe older students should study it, but not age 4 to 8, as the book recommends.
