#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELER
Our earliest experiences shape our lives far down the road, and What Happened to You? provides powerful scientific and emotional insights into the behavioral patterns so many of us struggle to understand. Through this lens we can build a renewed sense of personal self-worth and ultimately recalibrate our responses to circumstances, situations, and relationships. It is, in other words, the key to reshaping our very lives.--Oprah Winfrey This book is going to change the way you see your life. Have you ever wondered Why did I do that? or Why can't I just control my behavior? Others may judge our reactions and think, What's wrong with that person? When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking What's wrong with you? to What happened to you? Here, Winfrey shares stories from her own past, understanding through experience the vulnerability that comes from facing trauma and adversity at a young age. In conversation throughout the book, she and Dr. Perry focus on understanding people, behavior, and ourselves. It's a subtle but profound shift in our approach to trauma, and it's one that allows us to understand our pasts in order to clear a path to our future--opening the door to resilience and healing in a proven, powerful way.It takes about 5 Hours and 16 minutes on average for a reader to read What Happened To You?: Conversations On Trauma, Resilience, And Healing. LIGHT BLUE PRINT?

I was excited to read this book, but I can't read it. I don't understand why they did it this way, if they had made it dark blue or bolder it would have done the same thing. I'm not sure if I'll put my eyes through this.

Good read…

It's important to understand you if you take cate. When trying to reach a student, this book gives me permission to ask what happened to them, not just my heart. You can't get to the academics if you don't build the relationships. As we head to a new school year that leaves behind a very unique past learning time, it is time to listen and learn from our staff and students.

What Happened to You
Derived From Web , Jul 13, 2021
This was a great read and a great learning tool. I think we can learn a lot from asking what happened to you, it seems simple, but our tendency to assign blame or criticize someones behavior is probably the norm. Anyone who reads this will never look at people in the same way. We are all wounded.

Brilliant
Derived From Web , Jul 5, 2021
There is a nice balance of explaining trauma related symptoms. This book helps us understand trauma in the human experience. This will be a simple overview of the mechanisms of trauma for those who are familiar with the model of NMT. The purpose of this book is to help survivors overcome the toxic self-doubt, shame, and guilt that are so often the legacy of trauma survivors. I think it is brilliant.

A therapy session within each page.

The book helped me understand why I react the way I do when I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. It is an important read for everyone to gain a better understanding of how people behave, because you don't know what happened to them.

A huge WOW!!!

I was listening to an audio book while driving. Oprah would say there were tons of ah ha moments along the way. Don't walk to the store if you've experienced a trauma situation in your life. Purchasing this book is the best thing I've ever done for myself.

disappointing
Derived From Web , May 18, 2021
It's an Oprah book, but there isn't much help offered here. It's about how trauma is experienced. I thought there would be some advice on how to help heal from our own traumas. I waited for the healing part of the book. There is no advice in the chapter From cope to healing. My book was dirty and damaged. Amazon needs to take better care of their products.

Disappointing
Derived From Web , May 2, 2021
I didn't see anything new in the market. There is a lot of negative feedback from parents. The theory that trauma causes mental illness has been discredited. Understanding brain health and ending the stigmas is what we should be focusing on.

HUGELY DISAPPOINTING
Derived From Web , May 1, 2021
I wanted to find help. I know my brain doesn't work well. I've never heard of Diencephalon. I wanted to learn techniques to heal and change my behavior. There are no healing steps in this book. Scientific explanations of how my brain does not function are not really helpful. The title has healing in it, but not much in the contents. Bessel van der Kolk M.D. was ordered by me. Another reviewer recommended the book, The Body Keeps Score. I hope to find the help I need.
