Book Overview

Daily Devotions for People Who Hate Daily Devotions

Let's face it. A lot of Christian resources can feel cheesy, out-of-touch, and a little boring. But when Skye Jethani started doodling and writing up some of his thoughts about God, his Twitter and email list blew up. What If Jesus Was Serious? is a compilation of all-new reflections (and hand-drawn doodles) from Skye. He takes a look at some of Jesus' most demanding teachings in the Sermon on the Mount and pushes us to ask whether we're really hearing what Christ is saying. The visual component of the book makes it memorable and enjoyable to read, and Skye's incisive reflections make it worthwhile for any Christian. If you've traditionally been dissatisfied with Christian devotional resources but love to learn about Jesus and think deeply, this book was written for you.

   Shallow feel good for lefties
I bought it because of the reviews. It's just too shallow and weirdly political, Michael Savage said on Fox News Sunday. One of the bad guys in the cartoons has a red baseball cap and he's doing "what you shouldn't do," Bustin Rhymes said.

Best book I've read on the Sermon on the Mount
As for Mr. Snow, I continue to love Skye's insight. He does a great job of taking intense theology and making it readable, said Dr. Chester Floyd, director of the Institute for Biblical and Theological Research. I love that the book can be used as a daily devo or just read as a normal book, and I love how he takes chunks of the sermon at a time and really hones in on every piece of the sermon.

   Loved this book
Really enjoyed this book, and took a lot away from it. We need to unlearn some of the misconceptions our culture has created about Jesus and really try to understand and implement the things He actually said, he said.

Perfect for daily personal reading, family devotions, or group discussion
A Visual Guide to the Teachings of Jesus We Love by Holy Post Podcast cohost Skye Jethani is on my recommended reading list for 2020. Each chapter is two to three pages long, graced with a thoughtful illustration to help readers understand the deeper truths. The unhurried, insightful look at The Sermon on the Mount deepened my understanding of the Christian faith. In The Third Person, Dr. Jethani challenges the reader to self-examine and seek internal intimacy with Christ over showy Christianity. This book is perfect for daily reading, family devotions, or group discussion.

   Great book on Discipleship
Loved the book. This is a good format for a bunch of brief entries, said Paul LiCalsi.

   Somewhat Superficial
It's a much lighter read than I anticipated. 0 1462228 1462201 It's a great read, even if you're not a math expert. He presented the material in easily digested bites, but rarely challenged me because I find his expectations of how we are to live beyond my reach. When I read the book, I was expecting the book to push me to reach beyond the ease of following Christ into the challenges of following Christ.

Content plus the format make this book easy to comprehend
Dyslexia is a disability that makes reading books difficult to understand and conceptualize. The book also includes doodles by the children that help bring the concepts to life in an easy to comprehend way.

   Great for adults and teens!
His writing has an ability to cut through the religious fog and get to the heart of Jesus. The doodles are so meaningful to enhance our discussions with our youth group, said Barbara.
