Well balanced introduction to the Constitution
I thought this did a great job of covering the Constitution, from the viewpoints of the different states, to the creation of the Constitution, to what the Bill of Rights entails. We did not find much use in the photographic insert, but the illustrations made for it on almost every page of the book.
   Biased Basics.
All this series of books by the New York Times, a biased newspaper, are eminently readable, making their former oh-so-easy to skip. For this author the electoral college is complicated and can not be explained. Regardless of constituional tendencies, she wants a popular vote instead. Before giving up to students, read to young children. Older students love the challenge of exposing bias and propaganda.
   Easy to understand
I liked the down to Earth language and explaining of the U.S. Constitution.
   Great series of books.
Haven 't read this one Yes - bedroom in our pile of books to read. It is a wonderful series of the books.
   Disgraceful Propaganda
It is a reprinted pamphlet of half truth. The first shot is the screen to which I opened. Instead of simply explaining the brilliance of the founders of the Electoral College, it is a veiled complaint aimed at uninformed children! I'm using it as a tool for teaching my grandchildren to beware of anti-American messaging. Beware the parents.
   Love this series
We love to begin with this series. This summer we traveled to DC for a family trip and this helped explain what we saw in the National Archives.
I’m a fourth grade teacher and my students love this series
I am a fourth teacher and my students love this series. I am sure that this book by Brennan Demuth will be a favorite when the school resumes and we study our country's early history. It is a gem. Demuth has a knack for making history come alive to young readers, and this book is particularly suspenseful, as she tells the story of how our remarkable Constitution came to be. Kids will also appreciate the historical details of the vivid time period.
   A fascinating read
Last night my almost 7yr old grandson and I finished reading What is the Constitution ''. I've always felt that the Constitution was an incredible document and that the United States is such a great country because it was built on such a framework. But I never thought about what it took to get the document written and more importantly agreed to. We were 13 independent states and the identity of people was more rooted in identity with their state than with the country as a whole. The delegates argued passionately for months and some of the most brilliant aspects of the resulting document came about through inspired but exhausting compromise.
