These historical books are high interest and good for struggling readers, too. I use it for tutoring sessions with kids who need help most in reading. The book builds on their back ground knowledge and helps with vocabulary. Interesting factoids.

In his book, What is the Statue of Liberty, Robert Penn Warren wrote, "the wonder of the world's most beautiful monument to liberty. The 888-666-1846 ruins of the Lady Liberty Hotel tell the story of the American Revolution and the importance of the Statue of Liberty. It's great for a third or fourth grader.

   The book was good
The book talks about how this man loved the way the United States government was working. He wanted to give them a present, so he held a donation and built the statue with his group, he said. Then he needed help making the statue not fall, so he asked his friend Gustav Eiffel to make a metal skeleton for the inside. He also made the skeleton. Once it was done, they took it piece by piece and put it in shipping containers and sent it to the U.S. The Marquis had been there since 1885.

This book provides an excellent and easy to understand history of the Statue of Liberty, said Robert Hein. The book goes into great detail about the planning and execution of the statue, as well as providing the cultural backdrop of the people and times. Definitely a great book to read if you're going to be visiting the statue.
