   Adult supervision needed
The series Let's Read and Find Out has been a big hit in our family. They are very good for young children, full of information and detailed pictures without being well beyond their age. I bought this title about magnets, because children have such a good time with their mighty tiles toys. The book explains that well, there is a long section involving an experiment that requires a sewing needle, not an object I would ever hand to a young child and even more so with a baby sister crawling around. It is hard to read the book without the child expecting to do the experiments with needles-and maybe even trying it on his own. Be prepared to exercise a lot of caution with this book if you buy it. It is otherwise very good.

Excellent Early Introduction to Science Concepts
I bought this for my 5-year-old nephew together with a Magformers set. The age range is 4-8, and I believe that it would be a good fit for this entire range. It offers hands-on discovery projects to be done with adult supervision, and the information can be tailored to various levels of learning. Early science is interesting and well done.

Every Franklyn Branley book is fantastic
Branley helped educate my grandson in such a way that my grandson keeps wanting another book. I have almost every one that has been published. The illustrations are wonderful. My grandson started reading at the age of 4 to first grade reading and I credit Branley's work for being a stimulus. Branley's work engages children with the words found in their language. The flow of material helps them seerelate to the themes easily. My grandson, now 5, is at Stage 2 so that the stories are a little more complex, but the challenge is healthy for him and he gets excited about it. A very impressive resume is a great author and his illustrator really brings it all together for the children.

   Keeping Science Fun For Kids!
I have several books in the Let's - Read-and-Find-Out science series and my preschooler and I enjoy all of them. What Makes A Magnet explains what a magnet is and how they are used in a way that a child can understand while still keeping it interesting for adults. It has several fun and easy ideas for experiments that you can try and follow along for yourself. Well written, nicely illustrated and entertaining!

Good introduction to magnetism and good fun!!
It engages the child right away to explore what is magnetic or not by gathering various common objects at home. I learned a few things about magnetism!

   Activity book
Most of the book is the discription of two activities with a magnet. Rest is all about compass. My 6 year old was left with a question, What is a magnet?

   Too dangerous for children
I can not give this to the child I bought it for because the author has forgotten his audience and is suggesting that the child experiment with needles. Yes, you can make a compass out of a needle in water, but it should not be done by four-year-olds,

Great book for kids and even adults.
I played with my kid magnets and he asked me how they work. I had no idea and I wanted to find a good book that would explain it easily for both of us. This one was really perfect. I read it to all my children, from 8 to 14, and we all enjoyed it. I had some magnets to play with as we read about them, which made it even more fun, and I can say that I learned some things I had no idea about. Book of quality with easy to understand information.
