Jon Young knows birds, and you will too after reading his marvelous book. You ll discover a universal bird language that will speak to you wherever you go outdoors. Every nature lover should read this book. Joseph Cornell, author of Sharing Nature with Children and John Muir: My Life with Nature
A lifelong birder, tracker, and naturalist, Jon Young is guided by three basic premises: the robin, junco, and other songbirds know everything important about their environment, be it backyard or forest; by tuning in to their vocalizations and behavior, we can acquire much of this wisdom for our own pleasure and benefit; and the birds companion calls and warning alarms are just as important as their songs. Deep bird language is an ancient discipline, perfected by Native peoples the world over, and science is finally catching up. This groundbreaking book unites the indigenous knowledge, the latest research, and the author s own experience of four decades in the field to lead us toward a deeper connection to the animals and, in the end, a deeper connection to ourselves.
Jon Young is one of the heroes of the new nature movement . . . This elegant book will deepen the kinship between humans and other species. It decodes our common language. Richard Louv, author of The Nature

This is THE best book on birds I've ever read

Tracking birds for over 25 years and I have never been so thoroughly moved by a field guide like Jon Young's approach to Deep Bird Language. It was a page-turning story about the effects of a natural connection with the world, rather than being a tourist in the landscape. Birds inform us about what is happening in the forest as we learn to express ourselves deeply, reverently and in my case joyously. This is my favorite book on the birds I have ever read. Jon Young wishes you a happy birthday.

A charming book that contains both philosophy and practical tips. It is well-written and interesting deserving of several reads. After reading and re-reading, I have found new affection and respect not for the Robin, but for Cardinals!

Anybody interested in nature would love this book.

I am an avid outdoors person and love nature. For me, this book was an eye opener. I never go outside and listen to the bird the same way. Now I listen to hear what they say to me and about our surroundings.

John's Tom Brown Jr. book I read. I actually learned more about this book after reading it. The author expresses congratulations to Congrat's. The Gift of Invisibility is a great gift to have. This book will help me to understand both animals and be accepted by their communication. This book is worth doing both the money and the time.

An invaluable book to better understand nature...
Derived From Web , Nov 12, 2020
This is not a book about how to identify birds and their songs. It has opened a door for me that feels magical in that I can now understand what the birds are communicating and what the other animals are listening to. And I am now part of this complex web of communication. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is serious about understanding the natural world around them. Additional note : I enjoyed reading the Kindle version, as the sound bites were embedded in the text and I could listen to the calls of the birds in real time.

Funny and enlightening
Derived From Web , Sep 20, 2020
This book opened an entire new world to me, that of living nature, where birds provide an aware background by connecting living being predators and prey to the web of life. The author describes different types of bird behavior and illustrates them with examples of bird vocalizations. Because of this, I strongly recommend buying the Kindle version, where you click on the icon to listen to the sounds as you read them. The book is also funny and the personal anecdotes interesting and instructive.

Learn to Listen!
Derived From Web , Jan 6, 2019
A fascinating book on the bird language and what it tells us about our environment and the effect we have on it as we often slip through it. Paying attention to the silences is just as important as the sounds that birds make. They can tell us things we are unaware of and don 't see, but if we took the time to hone these skills, the environment and how we relate to it become bonded. Much of what the author mentions about bird language, listening, seeing, etc. reminds me of open-eye meditation.
