Book Overview

2017 NAPA Award Winner Finalist in the 2016 Foreword INDIES Book Awards

Circus clowns perform tricks and make us laugh. They wear bright colors, big shoes, and all kinds of wigs and colorful hats. They seem to like people looking at them and laughing at them, but many people--including children--feel shy when other people notice them. And some people are incredibly uncomfortable being in the spotlight. Does this sound like your child? If he feels too shy or nervous often or if he misses out on cool activities and fun because of it, this book can help.

What to Do When You Feel Too Shy guides children and their parents through the emotions underlying social anxiety and uses strategies and techniques based on cognitive-behavioral principles to address the issue. This interactive self-help book is the complete resource for educating, motivating, and empowering children to overcome social anxiety--so they can join in the circus of fun and friends

This book is part of the Magination Press What-to-Do Guides for Kids(R) series and includes an Introduction to Parents and Caregivers. What-to-Guides for Kids(R) are interactive self-help books designed to guide 6-12 year olds and their parents through the cognitive-behavioral techniques most often used in the treatment of various psychological concerns. Engaging, encouraging, and easy to follow, these books educate, motivate, and empower children to work towards change.

A great resource for helping kids overcome anxiety.
Bought this for my 8 year old, who is incredibly bright, but painfully shy. We have been working together through this book and it has been a great tool for me to talk through his negative thinking and learn ways to deal with it. It made a difference in his confidence. I would recommend this book to parents who have young children who are dealing with anxiety, especially social anxiety.

   Great work through guide book
My daughter is a bit shy to the point of freezing in stressed moments. This is a great book to read and talk about together. I want her to be herself aware and know that it is okay to be her.

This is a huge help to my son.
He does not care to color the pictures, but he does all the other activities and you can see that it is really helping him. Not to mention, he is excited about going through the book. For something that has been so hard for him, it is as if he is gaining confidence just by reading and practicing what is in the book.

   Valuable tool
Highly recommended to anyone wanting to help their kids manage anxiety with skills. I have spoken with child psychologists who also recommend this book.

   Perfect for my 4th grader!
We tried to go to a therapist, but he was very unhelpful. This book has a worksheet in each chapter and helps to open a conversation about what is social anxiety. We worked every night on a chapter and my 4th grader loved it. He feels more comfortable at school and even his teacher noticed a difference.
