At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade's worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated.    Book review, When Breath Becomes Air
I found this book fascinating. The author was such a good writer that the book held my attention to the end. Yes, it gets technical sometimes, but it isn't difficult to understand.

Lackluster narcissistic musings of a dying man
This book is essentially the dying ego-slash of a final man. That might sound harsh, but it reads like a self-appreciating epitaph of a man with very little insight to offer. I'm an important doctor, why me? The tone of the memoir is tiring. The epilogue was the best part of the book and was written by the author's wife. At the end of the day, I feel like this book has value for the author's daughter, who will learn about her father through his own immortalized words, but not as far as its value for the rest of us... nah. Instead, skip it and read Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning ''.

Lackluster narcissistic musings of a dying man
The final ego stroke of a dying man is the book. It reads like a self- aggrandizing epitaph of a man with very little insight. I wanted to know why I am an important doctor. The tone of the memoir was tiring. The author's wife wrote the epilogue to the book. This book has value for the author's daughter, who will learn about her father through his own words, but not for the rest of us. Viktor Frankl's " Man's Search for Meaning" is a better choice.

   No emotional connection
I was a cancer survivor and expected to love this book. I didn't feel an emotional connection to the writer even though it was beautifully written, but I am not sure why. Perhaps it was too technical for my uneducated brain. He told me that you should never give up and that you will get well. His life was full of hope, even though he did not get well, and even though he was going through treatment for cancer. It was!

   No emotional connection
As a cancer survivor, I expected to love this book, but not. It was written beautifully and very deep, but I felt no emotional connection to the writer at all, and I am not sure why. It was maybe just too technical for my uneducated brain. What I have learned from him and my own experience is that you should never give up, believe that you will always be well. Sadly, he did not get well and that is tragic, but his life was not a tangledy, it was full of hope and while going through chemo treatments, hope was everything to me!
