Book Overview

USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEKLY, AND WAL STRET JOURNAL BESTSELER

From the author of the best-selling When God Made You comes a new illuminating message about God's design affirming young readers.

With lyricism, whimsy, and heartfelt emotion, Matthew Paul Turner reveals the tender emotions connected with watching a beloved child grow up and experience the world. Paired with Kimberley Barnes's vivid and playful illustrations, When I Pray for You is a beautifully affirming book, in which children and parents will see their own stories come to life.

When I Pray for You celebrates the dreams, hopes, and longings parents pray over their children, and shares with the little ones how much care and concern a loved one feels for them.

This is a book you will read to your child again and again. Perfect for any occasion, as well as for milestones including baby showers, birthdays, and graduations.

From the moment I saw you,
I started to pray.
Big prayers and small ones
I have sent God's way.

I prayed you felt safe,
full of joy and content.
When I whispered I love you,
you knew what I meant.

   One of my favorite books
The book depicts the child as a baby and full grown. If you have a son, it may be harder to relate to me since I have a daughter.

   Love this book!
I bought this book for my friend's baby and read it to my kids first. The book is good for any child, I don't care.

   cute book
This book follows the little girl, not just a group of kids. It is a cute book, but it does get a little long.

I would buy again from this author
This book is very cute. The first time I read it, I cried. It has a lot of pages and not a lot of words. It makes a good book for sleep.

   Couldn’t hold back my tears
I cried tears of joy as I read it for the first time. I have never posted a review before and I am wiping my tears as I write this. My prayers are echoed by this beautiful book. She is almost 3 years old and as I think about her life, I am filled with gratitude. God hears our prayers. Thank you for reading this book. I will treasure it forever.

   Beware before you buy!!
I wanted to read this book, but I was turned off by the ghost stories. I didn't think this would be in a Christian book. My children were scared and it was a deal-breaker for me because we don't watch or read ghost. If you are considering this book, please keep this in mind.

Neglects God's great gift of salvation
The book paints a beautiful picture of a temporal life but ignores the more important reality of eternity. I ordered several copies of the book for Christmas gifts and will be giving them a caveat to its unbalanced content. The illustrations and imagery are beautiful. The sentiment of a mother loving her child and wanting the best life for her child is commendable. The author suggests that a worthwhile life comes from being true to yourself or being a good person. The true source of life has been diminished. God isn't depicted as the Maker, Sustainer, and Saviour of the human race. He doesn't mention the mother's prayer for the child's salvation or even indicate that it is necessary, effectively ignoring the primary prayer of a Christian mother.

   Such a Beautiful Book!
The book is beautiful and precious. I can't do it without crying. To the heart of every Jesus loving Mother is how tender and sweet it is. My son received this book and I have bought several to gift him.

Get it! I can’t say enough good things about it.
If you want to cry, read this with your kid. Maybe on your own? William Joyce wrote one of my favorite books for children. This one goes up with it. It evokes that emotion in a way that makes you feelWOW. It was a great book.

   Geared towards girls
I like the book. I bought it to give to a friend so she could read it to her grandson, so I should have read the description first. The main character of the book is a girl. I wish the illustrator had balanced out the pictures so that they could have been geared towards both genders. It was conflicting about giving it now. I may find a friend with a girl.
