Book Overview

Discover the ruins of the Parthenon, one of the most famous and beautiful places in the world

Athens, Greece, is best known for the Parthenon, the ruins of an ancient temple completed in 438 BC to honor the goddess Athena. But what many people don't know is that it only served as a temple for a couple hundred years. It then became a church, then a mosque, and by the end of the 1600s served as a storehouse for munitions. When an enemy army fired hundreds of cannon balls at the Acropolis, one directly hit the Parthenon. Much of the sculpture was destroyed, three hundred people died, and the site fell into ruin. Today, visitors continue to flock to this world famous landmark, which has become a symbol for Ancient Greece, democracy, and modern civilization. Includes black-and-white illustrations and a foldout color map

Love this entire series of books and plan to purchase ...
This entire series of the books and plan to purchase many more. is written to be educational and informative for the younger reader. The writer gives enough detail to emphasize the importance of the building, but doesn 't drag things out with a lot of unnecessary adjectives fillers.

   Really Good Book
This book also tells a lot. But it tells only how it was built and destroyed and how it today looks like, but it tells everything you need to know and places you should go, so I gave it 5 stars.

   Good
Kind of disappointed that they did not show any actual pictures in this book. They usually do.

   Athens Trip with Kids
Great little story to teach my children about Athens before our trip to Parthenon. This, together with a 3D app walk through of the ancient Parthenon, made my 7 and 9 year old excited about our archaeological vacation.

   Great Non-fiction Read
Great biography series that will appeal to all children. My students can 't seem to put them down. For the last few years, I have had them in my room and they just eat them. The content is easy to understand and provides great information on each persontopic along with a timeline in the back.
