   Enjoyed this book!
The beginning grabbed me, when Kya was Very young. The book kept me guessing and it was hard to put down (as my life is busy right now). The descriptions of nature were wonderful as I love the country life. The story was relatable since we all are shunned at some time during our lives.

   Couldn't put down
The beginning of the book was hard for me to get into, but I was so excited to read and then see the movie. About halfway through I got hooked. Great read. Hard to put down.

   Predictable
It is a fine book, definitely suitable for the masses, but I personally didn’t understand the hype once I was done. I kept waiting for something to surprise me but it was all very predictable. This is no where near a classic, it’s more of a pleasant weekend read.

Good read once you stick with it
It is worth the read once you get past the first bit of the book where it's describing Kya in her marsh life. Then it begins to pick up speed and gets interesting!

   Favorite Quote and Review
My favorite quote in the 370 page book is “We called her The Marsh Girl. Many still call her that. Some whispered that she was part wolf or the missing link between ape and man. That her eyes glowed in the dark. Yet in reality, she was only an abandoned child, a little girl surviving on her own in a swamp, hungry and cold, and we didn’t help her. […] if we had taken her in as one of our own— I think that is what she would be today. If we had fed, clothed, and loved her, invited her into our churches and homes, we wouldn’t be prejudiced against her, and I believe she would not be sitting here today accused of a crime.“ It is the closing statement for Kya’s defense on her murder trial. It shows how people’s biases and discrimination can have lasting impacts on people’s futures and people’s views on them.
This story is so different that I don’t really have a good comparison for another book.
I would give this book a 7 out of 10 because it was a really interesting story and i read it very fast because it kept my attention.

   Best book I ever
This is one of the best books, such great details of the marsh from the author. One you wish would never end. I would also recommend this book for people who love birds.

   One of my favorite books
Such an amazing book from this author. Which is her first book. Seriously puts you in the swampy south and gives a great idea who the protagonist is. I seriously love this book.
