Book Overview

From the palaces of Austria to the mirrored halls of Versailles, Marie Antoinette led a charmed life. She was born into royalty in 1755 and married the future king of France at age 15. By 21 she ascended to the throne and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle of masquerade balls, sky-high wigs, and extravagant food. But her taste for excess ruffled many feathers. The poor people of France blamed Marie Antoinette for their poverty. Her spending helped incite the French Revolution. And after much public outcry, in 1793 she quite literally lost her head because of it. Whether she was blameless or guilty is debatable, but Marie Antoinette remains woven into the fabric of history and popular culture.

   Nicely done,clear,interesting mini- biography
Nicely done, clear, interesting mini biography to peak the interest of someone new to the historical scene. I would definitely recommend it for teen level - illustrations are charming, though it would have been nice to have a real image of the very attractive young queen.

   Worst Pictures In This Series
While the book had many information, the pictures were hideous. Love these books and catchy pictures. For this, however, Marie be ok, someone dropped the ball. The pictures consisting of dotted areas can be drawn manually. The images are thus blurry. You have to try an eye ache to make out the pictures. I found this to be a major distraction over all.

Very fascinating and very tragic story
I loved learning about Marie Antoinette, but it is very tragic for how she treated the French. There seems to be somkethikng with the French for always blaming others for their poor life choices like the killed Marie Antoinette, her husband and sister-in-law Elisbeth. Now Elisabeth is innocent, so the French were messed up. Well, that is my opinion. But I loved this book seriously! You should get it completely.

   We love them all
Who was books... always a hit with the kids at my house. They are about a high reading level for 3rd graders, but have a low interest for ages 8 to adult.
