This book did a good job of introducing complex social issues and injustices on a level that my seven-year-old could understand. The book provided enough detail to serve as a springboard for further discussion without becoming so long that she lost interest in the topic.

   Great book for all ages even adults
This was such a wonderful book. I read it myself the adult and 9 year old daughter read this as part of the black history month. We learned so much and plan to read several other novels by Yona McDonough and plan to read some other novels by Yona McDonough.
