Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

It's up, up, and away with the Tuskegee Airmen, a heroic group of African American military pilots who helped the United States win World War I.

During World War I, black Americans were fighting for their country and for freedom in Europe, yet they had to endure a totally segregated military in the United States, where they weren't considered smart enough to become military pilots. After acquiring government funding for aviation training, civil rights activists were able to kickstart the first African American military flight program in the US at Tuskegee University in Alabama. While this book details thrilling flight missions and the grueling training sessions the Tuskegee Airmen underwent, it also shines a light on the lives of these brave men who helped pave the way for the integration of the US armed forces.

Top notch book for kids &adults
It's a great book for anyone. The average reader level is about 3rd grade and up. This book is by far the best work I have ever read by the Air Force. It's just that we need more for other mid-elements." Only in the past few weeks have we seen kids get excited about soccer. Wish it had some photos of Lady Gaga.

   Great book
The book talks about the famous squadron called the Tuskegee airmen and they went to battle against the infamous purple power and they had over 1,200 missions and about 60 won the heart badge. These were very powerful people who served in the army and helped to win World War II, he said.

   History is important !!!
History about African Americans should not be limited to slavery, Raymond Clark, one of the leading historians of the Civil Rights movement, said. These soldiers are taught about in all history classes, not just in high school. I am very happy to have this book in my collection of books, said Dr. Goin.
