Book Overview

Born to be . . . wild! A boy's endless imagination, hunger for adventure, and passionate spirit are matched only by his deep desire to be affirmed, esteemed, and loved. Yet over the past few decades, our culture has adopted a model of parenting and educating boys that doesn't affirm, celebrate, or embrace a boy's hunger, passion, or wildness but rather seeks to tame it. As a result, many parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors find themselves frustrated, confused, and wearied by boys' behavior. The truth is, boys don't need to be tamed-they need to be understood, loved, challenged, and encouraged. Wild Things helps parents, teachers, mentors, and others understand and explore the hearts, minds, and ways of boys-and the vital role that parents and caregivers play on the journey to manhood. Based on clinical research and filled with practical tips and suggestions, Wild Things gives fresh insight and much-needed encouragement on the road to raising boys.

wish I had read this 30 years ago- so much good information and food for thought
Anyone raising boys should read this book before they are 5! I have raised 5 and am now raising a 5 year old grandson. I have to say, wish I had read this 30 years ago, so much good information and food for thought, Garton said. As a parent of boys, you have your needs as they will probably be fathers and role models one day. He urged parents to be "good role models" and to "avoid complacency".

A Great Book About Parenting Boys
The book is a must-read for all parents of boys. So I found myself thinking, Gosh, I didn't know that! Over and over again, the disc jockey would find himself back in the studio.

If you are a parent or caretaker of a boy, this book is for you. As a mother it has helped me understand my son more fully what he is truly interested in.

   Crazy Boys!
I am reading it and meeting with a group of women once a week to discuss it. It's great to be back home, said Dr. Brian Stokes Mitchell, director of NASA's Ames Research Center in California.

   Spot On and Required Reading
If you are a parent of a boy, know a parent of a boy, or will ever work with boys, this is mandatory reading. The authors take you through the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of boys, with special care to highlight both healthy and normal development, as well as where lack of parental and community support can leave a boy stranded. But beware, their extensive resource list will have you hunting for more books.

   Soooo insightful!!
He said, "Thank you, Lord, for the blessings of two boys." Through this book, I have really helped to understand why they do what they do and who they are. We are also beginning the journey of homeschooling and this book has helped me to understand how they learn, Mrs. Pearson writes. It's a great book, said Frey.

SO MUCH BETTER than other parenting books!
I have been searching for this book for over five years. Most leave me feeling ok, but HOW? I wanted more motivation than to raise them right, I needed to know what the right looks like and how to help shape it. This book is so insightful, encouraging, not intimidating, and give practical advice, Melissa said. I have also ordered My Kids on Track, by David Thomas, a co-author of the Wimpy Kid books. You can also check out his entire podcast collection here: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=F9qWfX...

   Eh…
That was pretty impressive, right? It's another kind of strong Christian overtone rhetoric-of-a-book without really having much of a scientific basis, McBride said.

   MUST READ BOOK
The book is highly recommended by friends and I recommend it to others. The book is a great read, and the authors provide information about how boys develop differently from conception to adolescence. The authors break down each stage into groups so you get an idea of what you can expect to see in your child, what your child needs, and practical tips to help you during that stage. This book will be kept for my boys until they grow up. But I know I will pull it off the shelf during each stage of my boys' growth, because my boys are only 4 and 2 at this point. The book is dripping with an uncharacteristic amount of truth, Graham said. If you are not into the spiritual aspect of parenting, I firmly believe this is still a must read for parents with boys. Whether you are a youngster or an adult, you will find the right tips and tricks to help you succeed.

Bought this book based off amazon reviews..
I was looking for a highly rated parenting book and came across this one in my search. Based on the positive reviews this book received here, I decided to buy it. It's just that good. It helped me understand how to properly parent my boys, from how to properly understand a boy is hardwired. Such a great read, Robert. Only one book has finished reading and I'm not even halfway through the second.
