Book Overview

From celebrated storyteller Sean of the South comes an unforgettable memoir of love, loss, the friction of family memories, and the unlikely hope that you're gonna be alright.

Sean Dietrich was twelve years old when he scattered his father's ashes from the mountain range. His father was a man who lived for baseball, a steel worker with a ready wink, who once scaled a fifty-foot tree just to hang a tire swing for his son. He was also the stranger who tried to kidnap and kill Sean's mother before pulling the trigger on himself. He was a childhood hero, now reduced to a man in a box.

Will the Circle Be Unbroken? is the story of what happens after the unthinkable, and the journey we all must make in finding the courage to stop the cycles of the past from laying claim to our future.

Sean was a seventh-grade drop-out, a dishwasher then a construction worker to help his mother and sister scrape by, and a self-described nobody with a sad story behind him. Yet he cannot deny the glimmers of life's goodness even amid its rough edges. Such goodness becomes even harder to deny when Sean meets the love of his life at a fried chicken church potluck, and harder still when his lifelong love of storytelling leads him to stages across the southeast, where he is known and loved as Sean of the South.

A story that will stay with you long after the final page, Will the Circle Be Unbroken? testifies to the strength that lives within us all to make our peace with the past and look to the future with renewed hope and wonder.

   Priceless book , a must read !
Is the best book I read in 2020. I am a Southern and a Floridian. My mother grew up poor, alcoholic man who was not my Christian father, who left. The truth is that you learn really fast as you grow up. That '', you're going to be ok. Your book made me laugh and cry. I got it completely! Keep 'em coming!!! Bless Jamie, God and Bloodhounds.
You need to read this book.
This man has seen some of the darkest times life provides, and he has the courage to tell you how his grief and disappointment shaped the life he lives. I was introduced to his daily columns by a friend, and I can say without exaggeration that his words have changed my life. I feel sometimes like Sean has written a column just for me to read. It almost feels like a church sermon that you were meant to hear. This book is a testament to a family that survived, a mother who sacrificed, and to the man who left his family behind. I never met Sean, but I feel like I have known him my whole life.
A story of hope and healing.
This long-awaited book gives Sean of the South blog followers the back story of his life, and is truly a story of hope. The scars of his father's suicide are more often superficial wounds, and we are left to whisper prayers of gratitude for the strong women of his life. This raw and honest story of a family shattered and the truthful telling of healing that seeps in quietly and purposely is truly a gift to those who have suffered childhood trauma. It will also be a light for those who have not yet faced their own truth.
   Sean..I know you..somehow..
Having read this authors books and loved his charm, wit and knack for putting pen to paper, I pre-ordered his latest as soon as the offer was available. I immediately opened the box and settled in my easy chair. I am proud to connect with the South, the People, the Places, the Southern smell. Consequently, I think Sean.. somehow knows. His life story will draw you in. The book gives you the feeling of making the sweet tea, pulling up a chair and listening to a friend you have known forever as he decides to expose you to his life. As you finish the book, you will feel like you know Sean and he is your friend. I highly recommend '' this book.
Sean of the South at his best!
Sean Dietrich, also known as Sean of the South, writes his memoir about his father, who took his life when Sean was just a child. This book is about love, forgiveness, redemption, and learning that things are going to be okay. Sean's style of dry wit and humor is evident throughout the book. His story is resonated with anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide with the deep and purposeful love of his mother. The strength required for him to carry on and the resolve to move it in the past to put it forward is compelling. Sean Dietrich owes Kudos for his unique ability for his storytelling!
