Dead girl walking, the boys say in the halls. Tell us your secret, the girls whisper, one toilet to another. I am that girl. I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through. I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame. Lia and Cassie were best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies. But now Cassie is dead. Lia's mother is busy saving other people's lives. Her father is away on business. Her stepmother is clueless. And the voice inside Lia's head keeps telling her to remain in control, stay strong, lose more, weigh less. If she keeps on going this way - thin, thinner, thinnest - maybe she'll disappear altogether. In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the National Book Award finalist Speak, best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson explores one girl's chilling descent into the all-consuming vortex of anorexia. Winner of the Margaret A. Edwards Award 2009

Lia and Cassie used to be best friends. After a falling out
Derived From Web , May 18, 2022
Cassie and Lia used to be the best friends. After a falling out, Cassie distanced herself from the unpredictable Lia. Ultimately, Cassie's life ended too soon from an apparent overdose caused by her eating disorder. Cassie is now on the road to some sort of recovery from her own eating disorder, while being haunted by the memory of Lia. It was almost in verse and was captivating from the get-go. Fair warning that this book deals with eating disorders heavily and may be triggering. I enjoyed it overall and gave it a 55.

Eh

I am not going to say I like the book, but I dislike it when I say I dislike the book. I am a freshman in high school and in the summer of seventh grade, we had a summer reading list and we had to choose two books. I have chosen this book and I am MALALA. I've read I am Malala much faster and was more eager to read it compared to this book. Wintergirls, although not a bad book, gets a little boring in the first half. I read the first 12 in a week and the second half in a single sitting. I felt that there was '' not a movement until the last 40 pages, which had me dissapointed. I like the story line, but I feel that the actual story could have been a little better.

An excellent story that gave a glimpse into the mind of a young girl with a severe eating disorder. Lia is shocked by people who love and care for her, but she doesn 't understand that they are trying to save her life. It is only when she is forced to face her friend's death that she finally realizes what she has done to herself and those who love her. This book helped me see that eating disorders are indeed an illness and not something that a person can get over without plenty of support and love.
