Danger is never far from Audra's family farm in Lithuania. She always avoids the occupying Russian Cossack soldiers, who insist that everyone must become Russian -- they have banned Lithuanian books, religion, culture, and even the language. But Audra knows her parents are involved in something secret and perilous. In June 1893, when Cossacks arrive abruptly at their door, Audra's parents insist that she flee, taking with her an important package and instructions for where to deliver it. But escape means abandoning her parents to a terrible fate.As Audra embarks on a journey to deliver the mysterious package, she faces unimaginable risks, and soon she becomes caught up in a growing resistance movement. Can joining the underground network of book smugglers give Audra a chance to rescue her parents?

A book that beautifully describes what Lithuanians had to deal with.
One of the best books I have ever read! I can picture every part of the story because every line is filled with so much information. Would absolutely recommend!
   Words on Fire
Well written, well written. The story line is excellent. An author can write a quality novel that will make you want to find out what happens next without offensive language and sex.
   Good book for adolescent age.
My 11 year old granddaughter recommended this book to me. The importance of books and what a young girl had to endure during Russian oppression are told in this story.
   A winner!
My daughter is in a book group of 10 years old. They all loved it. The Nazis tried to destroy the language, art, books, and culture of the country they occupied. She hit me with her comment. (...)
   enjoyable book and important theme
Our 9 year old granddaughter and I read a few chapters at a time and discussed the plot and characters. She learned that she has a lot to be thankful for in her home, state, and country. The author handles the topics of sacrifice and cruelty well for young readers in the book. I think it's a good idea.
Great, compelling book for pre-teens and teens
After we read her other book, Resistance, we read this. My son is half- German and so the Resistance book was important for him to read to understand parts of WWII but it made him very much interested in historical fiction and now he wants to read all of her books. The stories are really interesting and engaging. He said that after reading this book and her other one, a lot of the other books he likes seem flat. Overall happy. It's great to get kids interested in history.
This is a book that I want to read again after a few months. The seventh graders who have read it have really enjoyed it. It's fascinating and inspiring. It is important to spread the truth when people are being punished for speaking the truth.
   Great story
This book was very good. I have never heard of a story like this before. The meaning of reading is brought to life.
   A Gift that Delighted
My daughter says that this book is great. She added it to her extensive library after receiving it as a Christmas gift. It's always a pleasure to see Jennifer Neilson.
