Great Reference
Derived From Web , Jan 1, 2022
I studied for my M. Ed. in graduate school and used a PDF version of this book. I ordered the book because I needed a quick reference when I started my business. It's still a great resource. Changes in child's development are reflected in the updates.

Not for me
Derived From Web , Oct 20, 2020
This is a basic book. I think these observations were taken from one day of watching a class of different ages. The author states in the book that 7- year- olds may have handwriting problems. The book is an introduction to observations the author has made over the years. I don't discount the authors experience, but this book is not for me. A more in- depth explanation of the stages of development is what I prefer.

I paid a lot for the book, but it's very simple and basic, and each page only has 5 or 10 bullet points and a few sentences.

Quick read primer for childhood development
Derived From Web , Jan 5, 2020
This is a basic book for understanding learning goals. I was able to paint a pretty vivid picture of the diverse experiences students have from grade to grade when I used it to create personas for my company. I'm curious how many students made up the sample for each grade, as there seemed to be a lot of generalizations and the author described a strange yo- yo effect between 6 and 9. I trust that the author is smarter than I am and that the information in this book is what I would expect. I recommend it for parents and teachers to get a cognitive development 101 crash course.

Great for Elementary Teachers
Derived From Web , Jan 14, 2019
The age and grade levels for elementary school are given. I teach Special Ed and am not always sure what a typically developing peer of the same age is capable of, and this is a great resource for figuring out where the most growth is needed.

Presented simply and clearly!
Derived From Web , Jun 15, 2018
In a very helpful way, this breaks down what to expect from each age. It's easy to reference because it's well- organized. A teacher would love this book. Yardsticks can be purchased to give out to parents for what to expect at each grade level, referencing the 1-2 years of development encapsulated in one grade.
