Informative, Enlightening and Inspirational

Twenty-one days into it, I have really enjoyed this little find on Amazon. Every day presents you with a short piece of music to look at and listen to. Today is Paul Hindemith and there have been doses of Schubert, Poulenc, Clara Schumann, Hildegard von Bingen, Beethoven and Steve Reich in between.

All the music is readily available
Derived From Web , Aug 22, 2021
After reading lots of positive reviews here, I have to say that all music is readily available on Spotify as a playlist. No, it is not totally free - you do need to subscribe to Spotify, but it is all there in the playlist, couldn t be simpler. I have many hundreds of CDs in my collection, but find the ease of accessing anything I want to listen to immediately caused me to take the leap.

A great book whether you’re new to classical music or not
Derived From Web , Feb 10, 2021
This book is my favorite! For years I have been playing and listening to classical music, my husband not as much and it suits us both very well. We really enjoyed going through it. When we skip a day, we just do it and maybe we’ll miss it again next year or some other day. Usually just one movement or a piece in a suite, etc. I almost always listen to the whole work, '' says Bell. I can 't do that! And yes, it is easy to find almost everything on YouTube if you don 't have it.

Where is the music? Cannot find Playlist on Amazon Music
Derived From Web , Jan 15, 2020
I find it very odd that there is no music in the audio track of this book. Having to go to a playlist makes it very awkward and who needs it in the modern world. It seems to the author likes it effortless. I subscribed to Amazon Music to access the playlist easily and I can 't even find out which one it is. If you are not going to have the music on the audiobook, AT LEAST has a link to the playlist!

A Year of Wondering...
Derived From Web , Nov 24, 2019
... Why did I waste my money on this MP3 - CD? Like others who were misled, I thought music would be included. Instead, I have 365 bits of narrative, all named the same thing, in no order whatsoever, downloaded from the CD to my computer. How do I find the piece of music for today? How do I find the name of the song or the author from the narrative if I don 't know how to spell them? Useless : Beware the Buyer!

Diverse short offerings across the spectrum of 'classical' music
Derived From Web , Jun 10, 2019
I especially liked the wide range of composers and music sources, including religious, cinema and other music sources. I was very pleased that works by 41 different women composers were included, some of whom I had never heard despite owning music by over 100. Most major composers from history are included, although there is a heavy emphasis on J.S.. Bartok, Prokofiev and Vaughan Williams ranging each to a piece of Mozart. I searched and found some of my own very favorite pieces, including those of Part, Janacek and Sibelius. Heavy emphasis on almost all Christian music and Western music detracts a little. I missed seeing work by the British composer Karl Jenkins. This is all the nit-picking though, as I think this is overall a wonderful introduction to classical music for the less informed as well as those like me who have been listening to classical music for over 60 years.

Heads-up to Readers
Derived From Web , Mar 12, 2019
I've always assumed that if I ordered the audio version of the book, the music would be on the CD. The reader must find the playlist of the various pieces described on one's own by the author. To the rescue, you-Tube. But it is inconvenient to listen to the book and then locate the actual music from a totally different source. The individual CDs are not labeled by the date range. Seek and one shall find-eventually. Harrumph and disappointing!!!

Wonderful exploration of classical music!
Derived From Web , Feb 20, 2019
I am someone who has never really gotten into the wide world of classical music and when I stumbled across this book I was instantly intrigued. I am in love with this! I am so happy! I started on January 1, but the book can be started at any time during the year. Each track is a day, a song with a brief background, context or story around its success. From now there is a free Spotify playlist with all the songs in order so that you can just follow the music and hear the music there. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants an excuse to taste some classic music throughout the year.

interesting and worthwhile
Derived From Web , Feb 2, 2019
Short stories of intrigue surrounding classical and not-so-common composers and short works. Hardcover book is top-quality - book with a page a day. I received both versions of the book towards the end of January, but have enjoyed catching up to the current date. I look forward to using this resource the whole year and starting it again next year!

Hyped playlist is dysfunctional unless you pay $120.
Derived From Web , Jan 14, 2019
The book may interest you, but unless you pay $120 a year for Spotify, you can not access the much-hyped playlist. Spotify will give you five seconds of music and then stop. Useless : So you have to search out each piece that covers in the very brief descriptions and becomes a year of wonder and hours of searching.
