Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

A leading neuroplasticity researcher and the coauthor of the groundbreaking books Brain Lock and The Mind and the Brain, Jeffrey M. Schwartz has spent his career studying the structure and neuronal firing patterns of the human brain. He pioneered the first mindfulness-based treatment program for people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, teaching patients how to achieve long-term relief from ther compulsions. For the past six years, Schwartz has worked with psychiatrist Rebecca Gladding to refine a program that successfully explains how the brain works and why we often feel besieged by bad brain wiring. Just like the compulsions of OCD patients, they discovered that bad habits, social anxieties, self-deprecating thoughts, and compulsive overindulgence are all rooted in overactive brain circuits. The key to making life changes that you want-to making your brain work for you-is to consciously choose to starve these circuits of focused attention, thereby decreasing their influence and strength. In You Are Not Your Brain, Schwartz and Gladding carefully outline their program, showing listeners how to identify negative brain impulses, channel them through the power of focused attention, and ultimately lead more fulfilling and empowered lives.

It has worked like how I expected counseling to work for me. It is a must-read for anyone who is prepared to stop thinking negatively or to end a bad habit. It is a great balance of how your brain works and what you can do about it. It is very practical. Don 't read this book if you are not ready to face your problems and make some changes. If you want to change, you will be guaranteed!

   Find your Self!
There is absolutely no better book than this. Even if you are not apparently struck by OCD, anxiety or other symptoms, you begin to realize that things you do or avoiding have become habituated without your conscious decision. I recommend making a conscious decision about it : read it and learn!

   easy and practical
I learned many ways to focus, direct my attention or even imagine the good things or wishing situations. They are all great tools, but after reading it, I found it so simple to understand and clearly described how to use its method, the 4 steps, to change my life. Moreover, its science and methodology can be synergistic with my learned things, which make me super clear how to transform my life. The rest for me about this book is to keep practicing so that my brain rewires in a constructive, productive, and healthy way. ) Highly recommended to anyone, though you have learned many things. This is not the same.
