This helped in a very funny and entertaining way
My 7 year old daughter had a hard time conceiving life in the colonies from some of her history books. This has helped in a very funny and amusing way!

   A must read!
The illustrations and colonial look of irreverent experiences is worthy of reading.

   Racist
It is so one sided, portraying the natives as violent without cause. They skim things like a captive '' without explaining that he is held much like a slave. They say things like “the Algonquian seem to be beaten, as if killing them, burning their homes, and stealing the land was an accomplishment. Sick Book is a book by Sick. And there is also a little bit of sexism involved as well. “Pick a ship with a woman on board to make life more comfortable ” with an image of a woman cooking. And just skims over the fact that women were being sold as if it was a joke. Wanted a wife ''. It costs 150 lbs of tobacco to buy one. This book is disgusting and will be shared with my children to teach them what colonized white American leaders want to think about. And then I teach them what really happened.

   Entertaining look at early colonization
I couldn 't find much that dealt with the Jamestown colony in a way that would engage kids, but this book did the trick. Bear in mind, it is not a textbook. I share information in a very offensive way that some people find amusing. I don 't disagree ''. But when a situation was presented that seemed to me a little off, it gave me an opportunity to discuss it with the kids, age 8 and 9. Remember that the title says : You wouldn 't want to be an American colonist, so the topic is presented from the colonists '' view. It is not a perfect book, but my grandchildren liked it and it got them asking questions about what you could hope for as much as you could hope for. Be prepared just to add 2 cents to your own.

   Facts and funny
The kids love facts and this is an engaging group of the books. Illustrations are very fun and well-tied to text.

Great insight into what life was like as an American ...
Great insight into what life was like as American colonists. The font is silly and the illustrations are eye-catching. The teacher of social studies at my school used this book to enhance her social studies lessons.

This whole series is amazing. This is the one book in the series ...
This is the only book in the series that I couldn t get from the library, so I bought it, my kid is 11th grade, but reading at the 3rd grade. He thinks that these are the best books ever written for history. They are pretty fair too, not sugarcoating the English invasion, but telling you why and how it all went down. If you like this, check out the Unsolved Mysteries from the History series. We are social homeschoolers and these two series are secular studies - gold.
