Book Overview

For years experts have been telling Americans what to eat and what not to eat. Fat, they told us, was the enemy. Then it was salt, then sugar, then cholesterol. and on it goes.

Americans listened and they lost -- but not their excess fat. What they lost was their health and waistlines. Americans are the fattest people on earth. and why? Mainly because of the food they eat.

In this scientific and revolutionary book, based on Nobel Prize-winning research, medical visionary and former Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher Dr. Barry Sears makes peak physical and mental performance, as well as permanent fat loss, simple for you to understand and achieve.

With lists of good and bad carbohydrates, easy-to-follow food blocks and delicious recipes, The Zone provides all you need to begin your journey toward permanent fat loss, great health and all-round peak performance. In balance, your body will not only burn fat, but you'll fight heart disease, diabetes, PMS, chronic fatigue, depression and cancer, as well as alleviate the painful symptoms of diseases such as multiple sclerosis and HIV.

This Zone state of exceptional health is well-known to champion athletes. Your own journey toward it can begin with your next meal. You will no longer think of food as merely an item of pleasure or a means to appease hunger. Food is your medicine and your ticket to that state of ultimate body balance, strength and great health: the Zone.

Best book about health, not only diet
In previous years, I made the Atkins Diet and even though it worked for me, it returned to my usual weight, about 210 pounds. I was then reluctant to make another program until Diet Zone. My wife has been chatting about this for about 2 months, one day I began reading this book and I accepted the idea that this could help recover my health. It was only about 2 months ago, and now I have lost about 17 pounds, but the most important thing is that I have been feeling healthier even after the first week! I am not smart now ; I feel sleepy and ready to do my work with great energy. I recommend this book strongly and the concept of Zone Diet ; your life could change.

Scientific and practical diet and eating patterns for a sustained healthy lifestyle.
My doctor asked me to read this and a few other books to help me with weight reduction. The authors'reasons for this research were compelling. If you actually practice the authors'recommendations, you will lose weight and be able to control your desires for too much of the bad diet foods and practices. At the time, the first copy was lost and the doctor recommended a need to reread this after 15 years.

   First diet, lost weight
Following the zone diet was the first diet I tried. I lost 25 pounds in three months, bringing me to what I thought was close to my ideal weight. It was fairly easy to do. In advance, I decided that I wouldn 't follow it strictly... I ate a zone breakfast and a zone supper, but at lunch I separated with the office crowd and ate what I wanted -- for moral reasons. I watched the last 5 pounds tack on knowing that I was doing it to myself... Yesterday I decided that it was time to get smarter and back on it. Gotta make it a lifestyle change or I will be a yo-yo.

   For kindle...
This is the only purchase for my kindle so far that causes t to lock up. Once you get to the back of the book, where the appendixes are locked, so that I can not jump from Hater to chapter. I would purchase a paper copy of this book so that you can move more easily to reference things.

   Good idea, but too complicated
A few years ago, I bought the Die Zone Diet book in many an attempt to lose weight. While it was part of the low carb diet craze and does provide some good insights, it is too complicated. Everything has to be eaten in percentages and your diet must be limited by bad carbs. You must limit portions, eat fruit and vegetables and not live so strictly, otherwise you will be unhappy.
