Book Overview

An interactive introduction to working with animals

Zoology for Kids invites the next generation of zoologists to discover the animal kingdom through clear, entertaining information and anecdotes, lush color photos, hands-on activities, and peer-reviewed research. Young minds are introduced to zoology as a science by discussing animals' forms, functions, and behaviors as well as the history behind zoos and aquariums. Related activities include baking edible animal cells, playing a dolphin-echolocation game, and practicing designing an exhibit. Young readers can peek into the world of zookeepers and aquarists, veterinarians, wildlife researchers, and conservationists as they train their friends, mold a tiger's jawbone, and perform field research in their own backyard. This engaging resource provides readers with new knowledge, a healthy respect for the animal kingdom, and the idea that they can pursue animal-related careers and make a difference to preserve and protect the natural world.

   beautiful pictures and activities
This book is packed with a number of facts, beautiful pictures and activities. It is designed for ages 9 and up, but even my youngest enjoyed the book thoroughly at 7. The dictionary in the back of the book was actually one of the fun highlights because as my 7 and 9-year-old read the information, they had fun finding the words to find the meanings. I think one of my favorite parts of the book was the layout and breakdown of the book about animals and then all about the different people who work with animals on a daily basis. Whether your child is one who wants to work with animals in the future or if they love animals in general, this is the best book to read!

   Not a hardback
I've assumed for the price that this was a hardcover book, making it less distractible for kids. It is made cheaply, but is a good reference book.

   Great book for budding zoologists.
My son LOVES his new zoology book absolutely! It is full of beautiful pictures that keep the kids interested, especially those who can not read quite yet. My son loves the Kratt brothers, so that to be featured in this book was the icing on the cake for him! It is highly recommended!

Heavier read than expected - good info
Like the pictures, but heavier read than I expected for my advanced 9yr old. That is for sure a good detail.

   Great book!
Exactly what I was looking for for my 8 year old dapper... she loves animals and watches all the time and birds out the window that come to the feeders.

my eight year old son really enjoyed the activities in the book
My 8 year old son was really enjoyed by the activities written in the book. We loved the cell cake and all the information was really engaging and well presented. We have been going through an activity a week since we got it as part of our houseschooling curriculum and is really enjoyable.
